Squish Bit Figs at Culture Pirates, Possibly Also Vending Machines

I'm crushing your head! Newish Bit Figs in the Culture Pirates store.  And they're cheap.

The really cool Glyos-compatible Bit Figs pixel figures are getting a new run (with Glyos hole!) in more flexible plastic, seemingly now with partially painted eyes.  The unpainted ones were nice, but these are a little nicer.  Click here to see if you can get any - some sold out.  Failing that, check vending machines at Dollar Tree or other fine stores near you.

I have a bunch of the firmer PVC ones, one of which is acting as a crown on a staff in my Vlixden hand.  I'm very fond of the little guys.

Culture Pirates Releases Space Series Character Bit Figs

https://shop.culturepirates.com/collections/all/bit-figs
Culture Pirates has been selling Bit Figs, previously things like ninjas and animals.  Adorable, kid-friendly, and cheap toys that are perfect in this era of expensive Minecraft collectibles.
Tonight?  "Space Series."  Your eyes do not deceive you - you're seeing Pheyden, Crayboth, Glyan, Qualloid, and Astroloc.  Astroloc is, of course, new.

At the Onell Design blog you can see the vending machine header cards that we'll hopefully see, meaning Pheyden could well finally appear in actual real toy stores across the USA.

Order yours here.

Review: Bit Figs Mega Bit Spectre Pheyden

Bit Figs Mega Bit Spectre Pheyden Action Figure SetEver since the line was introduced, I was looking forward to the Bit Figs Mega Bit Spectre Pheyden Set. I wasn't sure if it would be painted or not, so seeing them do both versions was a nice surprise. Naturally, I bought both - it's a big pixel figure with soft, glowing plastic. It's also a small figure with glowing plastic. It's two figures! The little one is the same size as the Bit Figs you'll find in vending machines (and should buy), while the bigger one is about the same size as a regular Pheyden figure - about 2 3/4-inches tall.

Review: Bit Figs Matryx Pheyden

Bit Figs Matryx Pheyden Action FigureBoy howdy am I glad I got a Bit Figs Matryx Pheyden. This is the kind of thing you know and love if you're just the right age - the Onell Design stalwart has been made in the colors of the original 1989 GameBoy, which has been recolored many times, in many formats. It's a good fit - and it has an insane multi-color tampo on the chest that shows just how fancy these figures can be at a reasonable price. It's basically the same old Pheyden with new deco. This is good enough for me.

Reviews: Bit Figs Mega Bit Pheyden Flesh Set

Bit Figs Mega Bit Pheyden Flesh Set Mini FiguresI am a huge, huge sucker for M.U.S.C.L.E.-style mini figures. Huge. So I when I saw the Mega Bit Pheyden Flesh Set I was sitting here asking if I needed to buy yet another set of these guys. After realizing I still had to order that Copper Tape from Flying Vipers and a couple of t-shirts, the answer was a fast "yes." Once I'm paying shipping, all bets are off - if you sell music and band shirts drawn by Matt Doughty - in my size, no less? I'm going to give you my business. So here we are, more figures I don't need, but do want.

Review: Bit Figs Mega Bit Pheyden Standard Set

Bit Figs Mega Bit Pheyden Standard Set Mini FigureI already bought one version of this mold, but a painted colorway of Mega Bit Pheyden - a Standard Set - seemed to be an essential purchase. (I'm also interested in a green "bad graphics" one and/or glow-in-the-dark someday.) Pheyden in Pheyden colors is an important thing to have, and this blocky one is nothing if not charming. If you got the Mega Bit Pheyden Trophy Set [FOTD #1,531] the figures offer little new other than changes in color, but they're good changes in color. In addition to these figures, an unpainted blue duo was also put up for sale.

Review: Bit Figs Animal Series 1 Pup

Bit Figs Animal Series 1 Pup Mini FigureI bought a sack of animals and a sack of ninjas, and didn't complete either set. With the animals, I think there were some oddities. For example, Pup - the dog - came in unpainted orange and painted orange, as expected. He also came in grey, the cat color, with a pink nose. Well, I was surprised - but I like weird variants, and this was indeed a surprise as we're not entirely sure what all got made yet. In addition to all of these, the manufacturers sold gold figures direct to the consumer.

Review: Bit Figs Mega Bit Pheyden Trophy Set

Bit Figs Mega Bit Pheyden Trophy Set Mini FigureWhen I saw the first Bit Figs showing up on social media, I thought "Those are neat, but I'm sticking to this whole 'don't buy made-on-demand' kick." I already live in sort of a black hole of toy purchases. When I saw a plastic made-in-a-factory Mega Bit Pheyden Trophy Set was on sale - $10 for 2 figures, no less - I pounced. I love weird pixel things, and I love Glyos, so it's a good mix. (So far I've skipped Minecraft because boy howdy those things are pricey.) With a 2 3/4-inch and a 1-inch figure, made of 4 total chunks of plastic, I figured I should give these a whirl.

Crossposted from my Tumblr.

Reviews start next week - but these are new @bitfigs from Culture Pirates, SSM Vending, Onell Design, and presumably someone else.  I don’t know who.

The idea is that they’re (mostly) vending machine figures, so keep an eye open for these in other colors.  The top row shows animals, the bottom row shows ninjas.  Each one has a hole in the feet which is the size of a Glyos peg - good for staffs, alternate heads.  Each figure is about 1-inch tall and is unarticulated.
On the left are two (so far) online exclusive Bit Figs.  The big one is a large Pheyden with articulated arms that are removable and swappable with other @glyos pieces.  The little one is a little one.   Interestingly, the animals and ninjas are marked “GLYOS BIT FIGS″ - the only Glyos-family figures so far that I can recall that have any sort of markings - but Pheyden doesn’t.  He’s just this guy, you know?

Also confusing, today in Japan they announced Transformers Bit Figs and they’re something else entirely.

So far, I’ve counted (but have not personally seen and do not yet own) 62 different tiny Bit Figs from a grand total of 11 molds, plus the big one.  I’m contemplating a checklist thing.  I’ll be sorry if I do this, I just know it.

The only “wild” bit figs in vending machines have been 75 cents so far.   The Culture Pirates ones are roughly a buck a pop when bought in a bag.  I’ve already posted this review if Ninjas Ku in all 10 (known) vending colors if you’d like to see more.

If you want vehicles to go with them, so far Hot Wheels has a Minecraft Mine Cart.  (Review also coming at you next week.)   I’ve seen - I swear I’m not kidding - 10 different package variants of it so far.  Target is getting cases of solid Mine Carts with different artwork - but it’s the same cart, so far as I can tell.  A basic blue-carded cart also exists, with at least 2 different bubble variants.  (One slides back and forth, one does not.)  Because I’m not insane, I just bought one, and it’s a dollar, and it’ll fit most Bit Figs in addition to the smaller Mattel Minecraft figures.   If you’ve ever had the urge to send Pheyden or bunnies through Hot Wheels loops, now’s your chance.

A late update - most of them also fit nicely in the Tankinator car.

Bit Figs - Now with Pheyden, Available Now

https://shop.culturepirates.com/collections/bit-figs/products/mega-bit-pheyden-trophy-set
The first 10 Bit Figs, plus a Jumbo Pheyden (and a mini one) are available from Culture Pirates in test-shot gold.    Like, right now.

Before you check out, they also have some other ones plus they sell some CDs and records from various bands with which they have an association.   I've bought a few and so far I'm quite pleased.  I ordered these buggers too because of course I would.

Glyos Hitting Stores - Bit Figs in Vending Machines

As you no doubt have read, SSM Vending has been distributing the new Onell Design Bit Figs, Glyos compatible figures roughly the same size as Mordles or Hasbro's Fighter Pods/Spider Pods toys.  They're about an inch each, and make excellent puppets.

Each figure comes in a capsule and will probably be either 25 or 50 cents at a machine near you.  SSM distributes to all sorts of places, and I've seen their machines at grocery stores and (unless I'm mistaken) Toys R Us stores.  I don't know if it's regional or a chain-wide deal, so I would suggest checking your local machines for the SSM branding - it should be on the graphical insert cards.  If you see it, that means you've got a good chance of possibly finding these.

Each set includes 5 sculpts in painted and unpainted varieties - and there are some color variants.

There are two series - Ninja and Animal.  I picked up a big bag of each since the distributor was within driving distance.  Here are some comments.

Animal Series
My bag did not include a complete set - I got Pup, Bun, Duck, and Pig in painted and unpainted varieties.  My bag had unpainted Kit, but not painted Kits - rather, it had Pup in Kit colors!  What did you get in yours?

Ninja Series
My bag did not include a complete set here, either.  It appears there may be as many as 50 varieties - 5 sculpts in 5 colors, each painted or unpainted.   In my bag, Ku the Skeleton seems to be the most common sculpt, with the orange color dominating the bag.

Overall
They're small and cute, and not as rubbery as other similarly sized figures.  They fit perfectly on Glyos figure pegs by design, and make adorable puppets or peg legs.  I'd suggest dropping a buck in a vending machine if you find them.  If you order them by mail, be sure to ask for a header card with figures - each has 5 painted figures, and you'll want those.

These are notable in that they are - as far as I can tell - the first Glyos/Onell Design figures to get national distribution at big stores.   The vending machines keep the prices low, and it cracks open the door for more neat ideas.  Just a few years ago we were talking about the democratization of designer figures through a lower-price OMFG line, and now Onell Design has discovered that you can give the things away.   Collecting them all, on the other hand, may prove tricky.

I like 'em.  I don't know if I'll buy series after series of new colorways, but if we get some glow I'll buy more of these.   Heck, if you get extras it's not like Halloween isn't around the corner.  Kids still like toys, right?
