Review: Onell Design Glyos Hades Mimic Armorvor Figure

The first one sold out quickly, and the Hades Mimic Armorvor (plus his clear companion) both sold out within minutes of their early September launch. Much like early Matty Collector figures, Onell Design has a few releases that basically require you make an appointment to be online to buy them. At least three more Armorvor figures are promised this year, so if you missed the ones featured here don't lose hope!

Glyos Banimon Figures On Sale Now

I just got home from a trip and the first thing I did was to check the Banimon Shop to make sure the two new figures are still available, and they are! I ordered mine, so it's time to make sure you order yours, too.  They're small, but nifty.

Also check out for a review, which shows off lots of neat features and a swell "robot head" that hasn't been shown previously.

UPDATE 9/28/2012 5:26 PM Pacific - 15 units of black & red Apocalypse and 42 units of the green Red Army remain.

UPDATE 9/29/2012 5:11 PM Pacific - 0 units of black & red Apocalypse and 22 units of the green Red Army remain.

Ni Stuff Alien Corp 2.0 Coming to NYCC

There's a Ni Stuff Update!   Alien Corp 2.0 will be at New York Comic Con 2012 at booth #3321, featuring numerous hand-cast parts like in the picture below.  Fancy stuff.
This is just a tease, and he promises more soon.  But you knew that since you already check his site all the time, right?  Good on you.  This stuff looks pretty nifty!  He has a small (and I mean physically small) gallery of Alien Corp figures from 2010 as well.

Custom: Crystar via Weaponeers of Monkaa, Witchcraft

With a few lucky fans getting shipped Weaponeers of Monkaa products early and others still having grabbed a few at PowerCon last weekend, numerous awesome custom creations have surfaced.

But they all cower before JonWes' amazing Crystar build.

This spectacular concept technically doesn't exist as no clear blue Monkaa parts have yet to be stamped out, but jeepers.  Check that baby out.   It looks like at least 3 figures' worth of parts were used, so keep that in mind when you consider which figures to get next week at the Spy Monkey Creations Weaponeers of Monkaa launch.

For more on Crystar, click here.

The Godbeast and Jason Frailey Debut Octopus, Skeksis Armorvor Heads

Continuing the proud tradition of super-cool custom heads for what may well be the hardest figure to acquire in 2012, The Godbeast and Jason Frailey have two new heads to gawk over.

On the left (and below) is the multi-purpose octopus head.  It has a few plug holes, so you can give it a beak, mechanical gear, and even tentacles to bring it to life.  Preorders are not yet open, but TGB promises these will be on sale in limited quantities at NYCC in a few weeks.

On the right, a Dark Crystal-inspired Skeksis head, also sculpted by Frailey.

TGB teases additional head designs to be revealed shortly, but what?  And when?  Who the heck knows.  Start saving your money, though, because apparently there's a whole mess of cool things to buy in the Glyosverse in October.

Weaponeers of Monkaa Debut at PowerCon

After more than a little bit of hype, Spy Monkey Creations debuted The Weaponeers of Monkaa at PowerCon and on their own blog.  The above poster shows the main characters including Empyreus, Umbreus, the Crystal Gohlem, the Magma Gohlem, Palidar, and Brutok.  These will be $12 each and the entire line launched October 1, 2012, at 12:00 Noon Pacific time.  Oh, and in case you're just now finding this line, they are Glyos-compatible.

If you go to the blog and take a close look at the designs, you're going to notice there's a lot of shared parts as, fundamentally, what you have here is another construction kit-oriented figure.  For example, the fist on Umbreus and Empyreus is also the Gohlem head.  The spiked hand of Umbreus is the Brutok head.  Much like the Onell Design Glyos figures, these use clever swapped parts as there's really only one figure with clever deco and construction change-ups to make them different.  Leftover parts are being sold in a $5 head pack, although the heads also make great hands and weapons from the look of things.  These things look really, really neat.

Weapons packs are also available in six colors for $5 each.

For those doing the math, the entire ball of wax should set you back $107 before shipping ($72 in figures, $30 in weapons packs, $5 in head packs.)

Advance figures got out to the press at the following News Dump-Approved outlets for your perusal (we're not lazy, we didn't get sent any here):

Banimon Schematics Revealed

The Banimon blog updated with a figure schematic showing some of the builds and some of the pieces.   With a target price of $7, you get 2 heads and a whole mess of weapons with each figure.

He writes:
"As promised, here are some schematics of the new toy. This does not show all the views, nor is it an indication of all the pieces that go inside the bag, it was meant more to illustrate few of the more obvious weapons building capabilities."

He writes more, but you should go read it there.

Onell Design Teases Banimon, Weaponeers of Monkaa

New at Onell Design, a sneak preview involving teases of Banimon (right) and Weaponeers of Monkaa (left).  On the right, you can see a colorway of a swell figure in the red and black "Apocalypse" deco, which has an awesome paint job and looks a little Darth Vader-esque.  I love it.

To the left... I don't know what the hell that is.  Anyone?  I'm guessing it's a knee or a leg.  Just a hunch.  The Spy Monkey Creations Weaponeers of Mokaa are kept under a tight veil of secrecy, so I can only assume it's awesome.

Go here and look at the whole post.  And hopefully we shall see even more!

Glyos Hades Drop Boxes Arriving, Include Bonus Packet

They're here!  The second and third Armorvor were joined  by Hades Pheyden and a bunch of other swell stuff, depending on what you ordered.

This time around, Onell Design included a bonus packet whose contents vary slightly from person to person.  Each one includes a black or glow-in-the-dark unpainted Govurom head, a black scarf, 4 black pegs, and 2 glow-in-the-dark pegs.  The pegs are used to fasten two Glyos sockets together, so it might help you out with your custom builds.  As the  main way to get these previously were by swiping them out of your Spy Monkey Creations weapon sets or out of a Glyan torso, it's nice to see some individually as well!

Banimon Update: New Pics, Color Confirmations!

The Planet Banimon Blog has been updated with some more tidbits on the upcoming release of these new Glyos-compatible figures.

The REAL dirt can be found in the October Toys Forums where this was posted:
"So it's going to be two colorways total, the green you see here (exact match with the Task Force Volkriun green), plus the previously announced Apocalypse colorway. Each figure will be sold separately and have both heads and all the weapons included, so basically the contents of the entire mold. Exact launch date and details to follow....."

Is it time to start getting excited?  I do believe it is.  Each figure has guns, swords, and a Darth Vader-esque alternate head, so what's not to love?

In Case You Missed It: Matt Doughty Interview on Tell Me Something I Don't Know Podcast

The podcast Tell Me Something I Don't Know posted an interview with Onell Design admiral Matt Doughty this past July, and you missed it.  Good thing for all of us, there's an archive of the episodes and an episode page you can go to in order to listen to it right now!  (I haven't listened to it yet, but it's on my iPod for lunchtime.)

For reference, this hit just before the 5th anniversary of Glyos a couple of months back.

Glyos Forecast Calls for More Armorvors (Get Your Umbrellas)

After an Onell Design Glyos release, Matt Doughty posts a thank you with some interesting tidbits teasing the future. The down-to-Earth guy always has a kind word for his enthusiastic customers with a nod toward what makes the line so much fun.   While there are usually a lot of things left to surprise, he did have this very specific thing to say about the Armorvor:

"The [next Glyos] assortment planned for October consists of three all new styles of Armorvor as well as few small surprises and that's it. Late November will see a larger drop which will close out the year, with the next scheduled release taking place sometime in January 2013."

Whoa!  Three more Armorvors, already?  Spoiled rotten, we are.   He also made mention of a higher run (hooray!) and a lower limit, reduced to 2 per customer.  Which, honestly, makes good sense, and I have to say I'm glad he didn't also raise the price at the same time since the demand is clearly slaughtering supply right now.

Glyos Onell Design September 5 2012 Drop Menu

As always, the Glyos September 5, 2012 Hades Drop Menu is that big strip of images on the left.  You can see a lot of stuff sold out really, really fast.   If nothing else, it's a good sign that despite being a small company, Onell Design really knows how to market its stuff to potential buyers.

19 new products were added in the top half of the store, and within an hour the Onell Design store was down to 11.  The Armorvors and Hades Pheyden went quickly, as did the other Pheyden figures, which probably lead fans to speculate that either Onell Design was caught unawares of the popularity of the figures, or rampant speculation of speculators, or you can just blame The God Beast for making too many good Glyos heads and people are itching for a supply of Armorvor bodies.   (Hey, I'd have ordered more than 3 if there wasn't a limit.  Have you seen those heads up close?  They're awesome.)

Anyway, take a look at a menu to see what you missed!

Glyos Drop Live! New Game "Glyhunter" Live Too!

Glyhunter, which is like Spy Hunter (but not) joined tonight's drop of several new black-and-greenish figures.  The new figures are up right now, and as always we'll post a menu of tonight's selections in a little bit.

Go here to try the game Glyhunter right now!

To see what's left at the store, click here.  Black Hades Mimic Armorvor and Hades Pheyden figures sold out in under 8 minutes!  The clear colorless Armorvor and several other items were gone within 15 minutes.

Bah'glenn Creations Next Glyos-Compatible Figure: Ston'emm

Previously known for his super-cool Canne'boids, the Bah'glenn has revealed its next rocky creation called the Ston'emm!  With help of Jeremy of Spy Monkey Creations, this hand-cast limited run will kick off at New York Comic Con and additional figures will be sold after the show.  For more, check out Bah'glenn Creations.

Spy Monkey Creations Teases More Monkaa, Confirms Glyos Pieces

So who are Gearo?  Well, we sort of know.  Spy Monkey Creations posted a couple of chapters of a story, plus a post on the October Toys forums, explaining some of what we can expect.  The reveal should go down at PowerCon in Los Angeles, just a few weeks from now, but here's what you can expect according to the forum posts:

"The figures will be about 4"- 4.5" depending on the character. Most of them, Pheyden comes up to about their shoulder. They are bulky and chunky. Think along the lines of a Gobon for heft. Each figure with accessories is gonna round out somewhere between 25-30 Glyos compatible pieces. All PVC no vinyl..... yet."

Hey, not bad!  They're teasing more with "The Stranger's Tale" story, but well, what will it look like?  Will it be fun?  Are they going to be sized similarly to 1980s He-Man figures?   I guess we'll find out later!

Onell Design Gives New Armorvor Detail

The Hades Mimic Armorvor (black with aqua green) is just one of the new figures shown today at the official Glyos Transmissions Web Log.  A new Sarvos and a "bulker" suit build using a Hub set can also be seen

You can buy these at the Onell Design store this week, unless they sell out in an hour, and let's face it: we all know they will.  (I mean, I gotta get one.)

Spy Monkey Creations Teases Weaponeers of Monkaa

While not explicitly defined as Glyos in the new post  Who are the Weaponeers of Monkaa?, Spy Monkey Creations has something new on its hands that will be revealed bit by bit over the next month.  Some forum postings have indicated this may include full-size action figures which may or may not sport Glyos parts, so we're going to go ahead and tease it here too.

If it's Glyos, expect lots more posts just like this one!  And if not... we'll update this post accordingly!  Either way, Spy Monkey Creations has made nifty Glyos-compatible parts packs as well as weapons scaled for Masters of the Universe Classics over the years and if you aren't already familiar with their wares, you should take a look.
